Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT
ArtiVasc 3D
Project Coordinator
With about 330 employees the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is worldwide one of the most important development and contract research institutes of its specific field. The activities cover a wide range of areas such as the development of new laser beam sources and components, precise laser based metrology, testing technology and industrial laser processes. This includes laser cutting, caving, drilling, welding and soldering as well as surface treatment, micro processing and rapid manufacturing.
An interdisciplinary team from physicists, mechanical engineers, biologists and chemists work together in the field of biofabrication and biofunctionalisation. Due to the combination of rapid prototyping processes like multiphoton polymerisation or stereolithography and surface functionalization we develop together with our R&D partners tailored surfaces for biological in vitro test systems.
Fraunhofer ILT is the coordinator of the EU funded large scale project ArtiVasc 3D. Our main research topics are in the development of the laser based polymerisation process. Additionally we are dealing with the local polymer functionalization.
